Plot Summary:

Azad Rathore, the warden of a women's prison in Mumbai, orchestrates the hijacking of a Mumbai Metro train, demanding a colossal sum of money in exchange for the passengers' safety. Kaliee Gaikwad, a prominent arms dealer, discovers his daughter is among the hostages and agrees to pay. Azad reveals his intention to donate the money to the economically disadvantaged. After the successful exchange, Azad and his team escape.


As events unfold, Azad crosses paths with NSG officer Narmada Rai. Love blossoms between them, leading to marriage. Azad's group embarks on a mission to abduct the Health Minister, demanding improved healthcare infrastructure in return for his release. This leads to a successful upgrade in healthcare facilities. However, Narmada discovers Azad's true identity, leading to a chain of events involving Kaliee's brother and a revelation about Azad's doppelgänger, Vikram.


Flashback: Vikram, a commando in the Indian Army, seeks vengeance against a terrorist group responsible for an attack. The operation ends with heavy losses, and Vikram exposes Kaalie as the faulty weapons supplier. This triggers a deadly encounter, with Vikram seemingly killed, and his wife imprisoned. Unbeknownst to the world, Vikram survives with amnesia.


Present: Learning of Vikram's survival, Narmada joins forces with Azad. However, internal betrayal puts them in jeopardy. Azad confronts the prison, rescuing Vikram. Together, they launch an operation against Kaalie, targeting his election funds and political ambitions. Azad's demands for environmental reforms are met, leading to a final showdown with Kaalie.


Months later, STF officer Madhavan Nayak reveals himself as Azad's silent supporter. The team embarks on a mission targeting Swiss Banks.


The film boasts an ensemble cast including Shah Rukh Khan (as Vikram and Azaad Rathore), Nayanthara (as Narmada Rai Rathore), Vijay Sethupathi (as Kaalie Gaikwad), Deepika Padukone (as Aishwarya Rathore), Priyamani (as Lakshmi), and Sanya Malhotra (as Dr. Eeram) among others.


Production Details:

The project's genesis dates back to late 2019, with Atlee helming the directorial role. The film, produced by Gauri Khan, incurred a budget of ₹300 crore. Atlee co-wrote the script, while familiar technicians were retained for various roles.


Casting was managed by Mukesh Chhabra, with Shah Rukh Khan portraying a dual role, showcasing six distinct looks. Nayanthara debuted in Hindi cinema, while several seasoned actors joined the cast.


Principal photography commenced in Pune in September 2021, marking the first film to shoot at Pune Metro. Filming later extended to other locations. Post-production was extensive, involving intricate visual effects.


Music was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Kumaar. The soundtrack featured seven original songs.

The film's title and a teaser were unveiled in June 2022. After a brief delay, a new release date was confirmed for September 7, 2023. The film released in various formats, including IMAX and 4DX, garnering high praise for its box office performance.
